About IRIS Certification®

The IRIS Certification® scheme comprises of the ISO/TS 22163:2017 standard and the IRIS Certification® Conformity assessment:2020.

ISO/TS 22163:201 fully adopts the structure of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management standard and has been extended to include requirements specifically for the railway industry. The expanded standard applies to all companies in the rail vehicle industry, including suppliers of infrastructure technology. Final IRIS Certification®, however, no longer requires procedures, but rather processes – starting with the identification and monitoring of customer requirements via the management of development projects, the procurement of products and services to project management, and product realization.

Furthermore, risk-based thinking and action as well as process-oriented strategies are emphasized more clearly. Process orientation is supported by the requirement that key performance indicators (KPIs) must be regularly monitored and evaluated. In the event of deviations from defined target values, corrective measures must be initiated in order to achieve continuous process and organizational improvement.

  • Product and service quality, customer satisfaction, and adherence to delivery dates are important KPIs to be considered.
  • When determining your KPIs, set achievable goals, designate a responsible party to whom a KPI must be reported, and assign qualified staff to carry out corrective actions.
  • The newly-featured regular process review can be used to derive further quality measures from KPIs that have actually been achieved.

What is ISO/TS 22163?

ISO/TS 22163 aims to enhance overall efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction by promoting a systematic approach to quality management tailored to the unique requirements of the railway industry. However, please note that standards and specifications may evolve over time, so I recommend checking for the latest information to ensure accuracy and relevance.

1

Step 1

Complete a Quote Request Form so that we can understand your company and requirements. You can do this by completing either the online quick quote or the online formal quote request form. We will use this information to accurately define your scope of assessment and provide you with a proposal for certification.

2

Step 2

Once you’ve agreed your proposal, we will contact you to book your assessment with an WECERT Assessor. This assessment consists of two mandatory visits that form the Initial Certification Audit. Please note that you must be able to demonstrate that your management system has been fully operational for a minimum of three months and has been subject to a management review and full cycle of internal audits.

3

Step 3

Following a successful two stage audit, a certification decision is made and if positive, then certification to the required standard is issued by WECERT. You will receive both a hard and soft copy of the certificate. Certification is valid for three years and is maintained through a programme of annual surveillance audits and a three yearly recertification audit.
